Helping build a Safespace

In June 2020, just 2 months before her 25 birthday, Imani Nyasia Fecu transitioned to the world of the ancestors. Everyone who encountered Imani was blown away by her spirit and spirituality, her empathy, her kindness, and her creativity. She is a daughter, a sister, a grandchild, a friend, and acted as a leader in every community she encountered.  She lifted up those around her, gave them hope, inspiration, and beauty.

Imani died from the complicit racist patriarchal mental health system that didn’t take her seriously.

Imani’s mother wanted nothing more than to provide a home for her to be safe no matter what.  She returned home from incarceration in February of this year, and immediately found work and was saving towards a home that she could share with her daughter who faced housing discrimination and homelessness.

Her mother, Jennifer, was robbed of time spent with her daughter, with whom she was so close.  She is now trying to uplift Imani’s memory by working to get justice for her, but also by building programs to help intersectionally impacted girls, women, and non-male persons in NYS area.

Imani’s Safehouse is also seeking funds to build a home for those who need, culturally competent, and supportive of freedom and autonomy.
